Switzerland's Christmas markets covered here are in Zurich, Basel, Montreux and Geneva. Zurich's markets mostly run from 19 November to 23 or 24 December 2026, with Polarzauber inside the main station the best indoor one. The Basler Weihnachtsmarkt runs from 26 November to 23 December 2026, and Montreux Riviera Noël, with chalets along the Lake Geneva promenade, from 20 November to 24 December 2026. Geneva's Noël au Quai on the lakeside runs from 19 November to 24 December, with free entry.

What visitors say
For many, one of the most beautiful Christmas markets they have ever visited: cosy, with a lot to see and good food. As everywhere in Switzerland, the mulled wine is rather expensive.
The Swiss classic. With Adväntsgass, the Wienachtsdorf at Theaterplatz and Colmar/Freiburg nearby, it makes a whole Advent trip.

- Tram to Barfüsserplatz; from Basel SBB station about 15 minutes on foot. Between the two squares it's 5 minutes uphill.

What visitors say
A place for a convivial evening with good food and drinks, nicely decorated and with a carousel. Those expecting a classic Christmas market find more street food; prices at Swiss levels, and not everywhere takes cards.
A place for an aperitif next to the big Basel Christmas market at Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz.

One of the biggest and most praised markets in Switzerland, with crafts and a view of the lake. In the evening and at weekends, however, the narrow promenade is completely overcrowded, and some experienced dangerous crushes; some find the offer too focused on street food.
A must-see, but during the day on a weekday. Avoid weekend evenings.
