  The backdrop with the castle and Old Town is unique for many. But the criticism is growing: mostly food and drink chalets, few crafts, rising prices, and hardly any parking at weekends.

  Worth it for the city and the castle - do not overrate the market itself, and come by train.

  • ★Sales stalls and many information stands on animal rights

  What visitors say

  In 2024 many praised the food and the safe space for vegans. In 2025 disappointments predominate: a power cut from the afternoon, too few food stalls with long queues, more information stands with drastic images than anything Christmassy, little lighting - especially bitter for those who travelled far.

  For vegans nearby a detour, not worth a long journey - the mood and offer have varied greatly recently.

  The romantic location with a view of the floodlit castle delights many; it is good for strolling through the Old Town from chalet to chalet. Critics find the markets too scattered and the decoration weaker than elsewhere - not enough for a long journey for the market alone.

  The most romantic part of the Heidelberg Christmas market - very nice as part of an Old Town stroll.
