Christmas Markets in Austria 2026: Dates, Best Cities and Guide
Austria's Christmas markets covered here are in Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck. Vienna has 17 markets, led by the Wiener Christkindlmarkt on Rathausplatz (13 November to 26 December 2026), and the Prater Wintermarkt runs until 6 January 2027. Salzburg has six Advent markets, with the Christkindlmarkt on Dom- and Residenzplatz running 19 November 2026 to 1 January 2027. Innsbruck's Bergweihnacht has seven markets, with the Old Town Christkindlmarkt open 13 November to 23 December 2026.

For many one of Europe's most atmospheric markets: enchanting lighting, lovingly designed stalls, a good layout and a paradise for children. On weekdays at 6 pm it is pleasant, at weekends you move at walking pace in places. Some notice cost-cutting with staff and very many tourists.
Vienna's classic and a must - on a weekday in the early evening; with children definitely go into the Rathauspark.

Ideal for a punch before a train journey - not a destination in itself.
