Dresden Christmas Markets 2026

Dresden's Striezelmarkt on the Altmarkt, dating from 1434, is Germany's oldest Christmas market, with a huge stepped pyramid, Ore Mountain woodcraft and Dresden Christstollen. Alongside it are the calmer Augustusmarkt in the Neustadt, the market at the Frauenkirche and the medieval Stallhof market, the only one with an entry fee. Go on a weekday or at opening time for the best experience.

    What's there

    • Germany's oldest Christmas market (since 1434)
    • Huge stepped pyramid and Schwibbogen candle arch
    • Ore Mountain woodcraft
    • Dresden Christstollen
    • Historic Ferris wheel

    What visitors sayGoogle 4.7 ★ · 4,689 reviews

For many the most beautiful Christmas market of all: enchantingly decorated chalets with moving figures on the roofs, traditional crafts, stollen. Prices are high, but most find them appropriate. Very full at weekends, hardly any shelter when it rains, and the cobblestones are difficult for wheelchairs.

A destination in its own right - anyone who wants to see a classic German Christmas market once should come to Dresden. It is most beautiful on weekdays and right at opening time.

    Augustusmarkt Christmas Market

    What's there

    • White pavilions along 500 m of Hauptstraße in the Neustadt
    • Ferris wheel behind the Augustus Bridge
    • International specialities instead of just bratwurst
    • Forged fire bowls

    What visitors sayGoogle 4.7 ★ · 122 reviews

Even locals are surprised how relaxed the Augustusmarkt is compared with the Striezelmarkt: tastefully designed, friendly, with stalls you will not find elsewhere, and fair prices. On weekend evenings the paths between the chalets get tight.

The best alternative to the Striezelmarkt - fewer tourists, more variety, and the Ferris wheel with a view of the Old Town.

    What visitors sayGoogle 4.8 ★ · 47 reviews

For many Dresden's most beautiful market: smaller and quieter than the Striezelmarkt, with high-quality crafts, very good bratwurst and Baumstriezel; the Frauenkirche is always present. You sit by the crackling fire and hardly notice where the Neumarkt market ends.

The most atmospheric small market in Dresden's Old Town - for crafts and an evening for two.

Cosy and different: flame-grilled salmon is a must, plus Finnish mulled wine, small sales stalls and tents with a fire to warm up. Small - and the ice stock lane in the middle bothers some.

A piece of Finland in Dresden - perfect for a break from the Striezelmarkt.
