  Visitors are delighted: a large exhibition of nativity scenes in the chapel's underground, craft demonstrations and lots of fun for children, a Christmas atmosphere like out of fairy tales. Reservations: the winding stone staircase into the underground, weaker music performances and, at some stalls, a need to watch the change you get back.

  The most magical Christmas stop in central Prague for families with children.

  The best-known Christmas market in Czechia: wooden stalls beneath the Týn Church and the Astronomical Clock, a big Christmas tree with a light show and a stage with a programme.

  Getting there and parking

  • Metro A Staroměstská or Můstek; the city council also recommends Náměstí Republiky station, because in 2025 one escalator at Staroměstská was out of service.
  • Don't drive into the centre.

  Worth knowing

  • At Prague markets the price of meat and potatoes is often given per 100 g. Ask the price of the whole portion before you order.
  • Stalls are open daily 10:00-22:00, with shorter hours on 24-26 December.
  • On New Year's Eve the viewing bridge in the middle of the square is closed.

  Prague's second big market, a five-minute walk from Old Town Square; same organiser, with a fifteen-metre spruce.

  A pretty spot by Charles Bridge, but the reviews are full of complaints about prices: food is charged per 100 g, bread and ketchup separately, and all the stalls have one operator. Some paid around 20 euros for a sausage and a beer.

  Fine for a stroll, not for food. Avoid buying food here without a clear price.

  For many the best market in Prague: authentic stalls, beautiful night lighting, fewer tourists and a large choice of food. It fills up in the evening; one reviewer warns about a stall that does not give foreign tourists the correct change.

  The best Prague market for those who want handmade goods instead of souvenirs, and a few dozen crowns cheaper than Old Town Square.
