Colmar's markets are spread over five to six squares of the illuminated old town and run from 23 November to 29 December 2026. Paris has 15 markets and villages, and Lille's Village de Noël stands on Place Rihour; Paris dates shown are the latest confirmed editions (2025).

What visitors sayGoogle 4.6 ★ · 227 reviews
Visitors are almost unanimous about the decorations and lights, especially at nightfall, and enjoy moving from one market to another in the old town. The complaints: crowds worthy of Strasbourg on Saturdays, chalets that close around 19:00 on weekdays and food judged expensive.
The ideal gateway to the Colmar markets. Go on a weekday in the late afternoon for the illuminations.

What visitors say
Many prefer it to Strasbourg: well-distributed markets, magnificent decorations and a pleasant stroll from square to square. But the crowds are comparable to Strasbourg on Saturdays, more and more stalls are devoted to food, and on weekdays the chalets close early (around 19:00).
For many, the most beautiful market in Alsace. Come early in the morning or on a weekday, and stay for the illuminations at nightfall.

What visitors sayGoogle 3.7 ★ · 581 reviews
A pretty stroll, but many find it small for such a big city, very crowded with a queue to get in, and with chalets that change little from one year to the next and high prices. The Ferris wheel is still appreciated.
Worth doing if you are in Lille; do not come specially - Arras and Amiens are more beautiful.

🎉 With friends🧒 With kidsWhat's there
- About a hundred chalets on Place Carnot, near Perrache
- Craftspeople, designers and regional producers
- Santa and free children's activities
- Hot chestnuts and mulled wine
What visitors say
Visitors in 2025 are severe: too many food stalls at sharply rising prices (raclette sandwich at 14-17 EUR), little craftsmanship, little decoration and a sloping square with narrow aisles, packed at weekends. A few regulars still find their favourite stalls there.
Lyon's historic market, best on a weekday - and combined with the Festival of Lights rather than done on its own.

What visitors sayGoogle 3.3 ★ · 511 reviews
The atmosphere is festive and bright, with lots of rides and food. The criticisms: it's more a funfair than a craft market, prices are high and vary widely from stall to stall, and the stalls all look alike.
Fun for an evening with children or friends, but not for crafts. For authenticity, aim for Notre-Dame or Alsace.

Many prefer it to the big Paris markets: small, charming, a more authentic atmosphere, gentle music and friendly vendors, with the view of Notre-Dame. Others find it too small and too expensive for what it offers.

Most reviews call it a tourist trap: excessive prices (a waffle for €10), mediocre quality, a single entrance and exit that causes queues, and aggressive unlicensed street sellers around the site.
Avoid it if you have a choice. Notre-Dame or the Tuileries are nicer.

What visitors say
Many are surprised by a grand, well-decorated market that is less crowded than the Tuileries or La Défense and easy to move around. The paid entry (€5) is debated; people also regret the few craftspeople and the many food stalls.
The most pleasant Paris market to get around with family. Book your entry.

Many make it the must-have photo before setting off to discover the markets, and the illuminated old town is marvellous. The negative reviews mention the crowds (from nightfall you can hardly see anything), the difficulty of parking, even at the park-and-rides, and repetitive, expensive food stalls.

For most it lives up to its reputation: the whole city is decorated and it takes more than a day to see everything. The criticisms always come back to the same points: very dense crowds at weekends, high prices for food and objects, and too many non-Alsatian products in some chalets.
