Munich Christmas Markets 2026
Munich has 11 Christmas markets in this guide. The Christkindlmarkt on Marienplatz is the classic but very crowded; many visitors prefer the fairytale Märchenbazar in the Olympiapark (26 Nov - 28 Dec 2026, free entry). For atmosphere without the crowds, try Winterrausch im Hexenhaus, the medieval Adventsspektakel or Pink Christmas.

Munich Christkindlmarkt
🎉 With friends🧒 With kidsWhat's there
- On Marienplatz in front of the Town Hall
- Large Christmas tree
- Nativity market and Kripperlmarkt
- Glockenspiel
What visitors sayGoogle 4.6 ★ · 134 reviews
The backdrop in front of the Town Hall with the big tree is for many the epitome of a Christkindlmarkt. The criticism, however, is clear: completely overcrowded, loud, expensive and many identical stalls. When the Glockenspiel plays, you hardly get through.
Worth seeing once, but keep it short - for atmosphere, go to the Märchenbazar or smaller markets instead.

An atmospheric little neighbourhood market with an ice rink and good food. Much of the criticism concerns the expensive, poorly supervised ice rink (almost EUR 30 for a parent with a toddler) and steep prices for crêpes and nuts.
Nice for locals - check the ice rink carefully beforehand.

Regulars like the little market as a cosy, family-style meeting place in the district with nice staff, good music and fair prices. There is only food and drink - sausages, burgers, chips - and no stalls with Christmas decorations. Criticised are the lack of seating and that parking in the area is scarce.
Ideal for a quick mulled wine in northern Munich - not for a whole evening or gift shopping.

Many find the still young market small, lovingly designed and pleasantly empty - with a fire pit, live music, good hot mulled wine and food from shashlik to spaetzle; you can pay by card almost everywhere. Criticism: the carousel and Ferris wheel sometimes only run from 5 pm, crêpes at EUR 8 are expensive, and on some days not the whole market was open.
