Strasbourg Christmas Markets 2026
The Christkindelsmärik of Strasbourg is the oldest Christmas market in France (1570), with more than 300 chalets spread over a dozen squares around the big tree on Place Kléber. The 2026 edition runs from 27 November to 24 December. Weekends are very crowded and driving into the centre is very difficult in December, so use the park-and-ride and tram.

Many make it the must-have photo before setting off to discover the markets, and the illuminated old town is marvellous. The negative reviews mention the crowds (from nightfall you can hardly see anything), the difficulty of parking, even at the park-and-rides, and repetitive, expensive food stalls.
The classic starting point for Strasbourg at Christmas. Do it on a weekday in the daytime, by tram rather than by car.

For most it lives up to its reputation: the whole city is decorated and it takes more than a day to see everything. The criticisms always come back to the same points: very dense crowds at weekends, high prices for food and objects, and too many non-Alsatian products in some chalets.
The Christmas market to see once. Go on a weekday in the daytime and park at the tram park-and-rides.

Getting there and parking
- Park-and-rides (P+R) on the outskirts, then the tram. For example P+R Elsau then tram B to Homme de Fer (about €10 for parking plus tram return in 2025, according to visitors).
- By car into the centre: very difficult in December.
Worth knowing
- Chalets open every day from 11:00 to 20:00 until 24 December; closing at 18:00 on Christmas Eve.
- Bags are checked at the entrances to the centre.
