Cologne has 15 Christmas markets, from the best-known one at the foot of the cathedral to small neighbourhood markets in Ehrenfeld. Heinzel's Winter Fairytale in the Old Town is the city's largest and has an ice rink running through the market. Long-standing regulars are disappointed: mulled wine at around EUR 5.60, potato fritters at EUR 8-9 and a lukewarm currywurst are criticised, as are hygiene at one waffle stall and litter around the park.
Worth a visit for crafts and the atmosphere in the park - better to be picky about the food.
