  One of the biggest Christmas markets in Switzerland, on two squares of the old town: Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz, with the big Christmas tree in front of the cathedral.

  What visitors say

  For many, one of the most beautiful Christmas markets they have ever visited: cosy, with a lot to see and good food. As everywhere in Switzerland, the mulled wine is rather expensive.

  The Swiss classic. With Adväntsgass, the Wienachtsdorf at Theaterplatz and Colmar/Freiburg nearby, it makes a whole Advent trip.

  • Tram to Barfüsserplatz; from Basel SBB station about 15 minutes on foot. Between the two squares it's 5 minutes uphill.

  What visitors say

  A place for a convivial evening with good food and drinks, nicely decorated and with a carousel. Those expecting a classic Christmas market find more street food; prices at Swiss levels, and not everywhere takes cards.

  A place for an aperitif next to the big Basel Christmas market at Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz.
