Letter to Santa: free, no sign-up, with the An Post address and a reply with your child's name

In Ireland An Post has its own page for letters to Santa. The address it gives is «Santa Claus, The North Pole», with a stamp on the top right of the envelope and your child's name and address on the top left. An Post says Santa posts his replies to the children in early December, for delivery just before Christmas. The page names no closing date for 2026 (checked 5 October 2026). Below: a blank letter to print on A4 and a free reply from Santa with your child's name. Nothing you type is sent anywhere: the name stays in your browser.

A free letter from Santa with your child's name

The templates that come up on Google are blank sheets for a child to fill in. This is the other way round: Santa writes back. Type the name (everything else is optional), choose the tone, the paper and the handwriting, then print it on A4 or download it as an image. It is free, there is no sign-up and no watermark. It does not travel by post: it is for you to leave by the fireplace, by the stocking or wherever your child will find it.

Santa Claus

Christmas 2026

Dear friend,

It has been a very busy year here at the North Pole. The elves are working double shifts in the toy workshop, Mrs Claus has baked more gingerbread than even I can eat, and the reindeer practise their take-offs every evening.

I am very happy to tell you that your name is on my Nice List this year.

Remember to be kind, listen to your grown-ups. And leave a carrot out for the reindeer on Christmas Eve!

Love and hugs,

Santa Claus

P.S. The reindeer say hello — especially Rudolph.

Be specific: «the elves told me you helped your little brother learn to ride his bike» is a line a child reads twice; «you've been good» is forgotten at once. And don't promise the present: the letter says Santa has noted the wish, and the surprise is kept for Christmas morning.

Printable letter to Santa, blank, on A4

This is the letter your child writes by hand. Fill in the name, age and town if you like, or leave everything blank. Only the sheet prints, not the rest of the page. In the print window choose A4 and a scale of 100%. When it is written it can go in an envelope to An Post's address (see below) or be left by the fireplace. If you want a reply, put your child's name and address on the envelope too.

Leave the boxes empty if your child would rather fill them in by hand. In the print window choose A4 paper and 100% scale.

An Post Letters to Santa: address, stamp and reply

An Post, the Irish postal service, has a page called «Letters to Santa» with a downloadable letter template, a Santa colouring page, a number puzzle and a crossword. It tells children to address the envelope to «Santa Claus, The North Pole» and to put a stamp on it.

On replies, An Post's page says Santa posts his replies to all the children in early December, for delivery just before Christmas. Write the child's name and address clearly on the top left of the envelope so the reply can find its way back.

The page shows no closing date for posting and no year, so we cannot say what is new for 2026. In 2015 An Post said Santa had answered more than 130,000 letters from children who included an address (An Post press release, 2015).

How to post a letter to Santa, step by step

  1. Write the letter, or print the A4 sheet above. Put your child's name and address inside too, so Santa knows where to reply.
  2. Write your child's name and address on the top left of the envelope (An Post's instruction).
  3. Address the envelope to: Santa Claus, The North Pole.
  4. Put a stamp on the top right of the envelope. An Post's page says to use a stamp; the price of the stamp is not on the page we read, so check the current price on anpost.com.
  5. Post it as soon as you can. An Post names no last day, and its replies go out in early December, so posting in November is the safe side.

What An Post does not say

The page does not say whether Santa's reply is free or has a cost to anyone: it asks for a stamp on your child's letter only. It gives no exact date for the replies and does not say what happens to a letter that has no return address.

There is no Irish-language address on the English page we read. We have not found one and do not invent one.

If you want the child to be sure of a letter on Christmas morning, the free reply in this page's generator needs no stamp and no waiting.

Dates: what is confirmed

2026
No closing date for posting and no reply date for 2026 are published on An Post's Letters to Santa page (checked 5 October 2026). The page itself carries no year. What it says, undated: replies are posted in early December for delivery just before Christmas.
2015 (past season)
An Post press release: staff helped Santa reply to more than 130,000 letters that year, to every child who included an address. This is history, not a rule for 2026.

Address and rules checked on 5 October 2026 on the An Post page listed under Sources. The page shows no year.

What to write in a letter to Santa

A good letter fits into five parts. It does not have to be long: it has to sound like the child.

  1. The greeting: «Dear Santa,»
  2. Who is writing: name, age and town. Put the full return address too if you want a reply.
  3. Something kind you did this year, with a real example.
  4. Two or three wishes, not the whole toy catalogue.
  5. A thank-you and a sign-off with your name.
  • Ages 4 to 6 (a grown-up writes what the child says)

Dear Santa, my name is Cian and I am 5. I helped to tidy up my toys and I gave my cousin a piece of my birthday cake. I would really like a fire engine. Happy Christmas! Love from Cian.

  • Ages 7 to 9

Dear Santa, I am Aoife, I am 8 and I live in Cork. This year I learnt to ride my bike without stabilisers and I helped Mam look after our dog. Please could I have a paint set, an adventure book and, if there is room, a camogie stick. Thank you for last year's presents. Love from Aoife.

  • Ages 10 to 12

Dear Santa, I am Seán, I am 11 and I live in Galway. This year I tried hard to help at home and my maths marks got better. I would like some headphones, but I know they are expensive, so anything you bring will be brilliant. I would also like my family to stay healthy. Best wishes, Seán.

Lines to finish the letter

  • Thank you for remembering me every year.
  • The best present is having my family close.
  • I have left a mince pie for you and a carrot for Rudolph and the reindeer.
  • I promise to keep helping at home next year.
  • Happy Christmas to you and to all the children of the world!

What is the last date to post a letter to Santa in Ireland?
An Post's Letters to Santa page names no closing date and no year, so we cannot give one for 2026 (checked 5 October 2026). It asks children to write as soon as possible. Replies are posted in early December, so posting in November is the safe side.
When does Santa's reply arrive?

Is An Post's letter from Santa free?
The page asks for a stamp on your child's letter, so posting it is not free. It does not say whether the reply costs anything, and it names no price for it, so we cannot say. How do I get a free letter from Santa?
There are two ways. Post your letter to Santa Claus, The North Pole with a stamp and your child's name and address; An Post says Santa posts his replies in early December. Or make the reply here in a minute: type your child's name and print it on A4. It is free and needs no sign-up.

Yes, above on this page: a ruled A4 sheet with a box for a drawing and optional name, age and town. In the print window choose A4 and a scale of 100%. It is free and needs no sign-up. An Post's own page also has a downloadable template.
What do you write in a letter to Santa?
Start with «Dear Santa», say who you are (name, age, town), tell him something kind you did this year, ask for two or three things and say thank you. A child who cannot write yet can tell a grown-up what to put, or draw a picture. There are examples by age on this page.
Can you post a letter to Santa from abroad to An Post?
We could not find anything on An Post's page about letters sent from abroad, so we cannot say. The address it gives is Santa Claus, The North Pole.
Does the reply made on this page come by post?
No. The letter is built on your screen and you print it or download it; it is not sent, and what you type does not leave your device. Print it on thicker paper and leave it where your child will find it.
Is it really free, with no sign-up?
Yes. We do not ask for an email address, and there is no watermark and no paid version. Everything works in your browser and you can print as many letters as you like.
