Thank you for showing up for each other all year. Wishing us a cozy Christmas, a full table and lots of laughs.
Merry Christmas, my loves! So glad you're my people.
To my wonderful family: this year flew by, which makes me love our Christmas Eve around one table even more. Thank you for every phone call, every hug and every long drive to get everyone home. I wish you peace, good health and a new year full of good surprises. I love you all more than I can say.

Write your card in four lines
What people remember is the specific sentence. The rest can be short. A card with just a name on it feels like a form letter; one personal line changes that.
- 1
Greet the person by name
“Dear Auntie Rose,”
- 2
Add one specific thing from this year
“Thank you for driving all the way from Winnipeg for Sophie's school concert. It meant so much to her.”
- 3
Make your wish
“I hope you get a quiet Christmas and that the trip you keep talking about finally happens in 2027.”
- 4
Close warmly
“With love, the Tremblays”
Sign-offs
- With love,
- Warmly,
- Warm regards,
- Best wishes,
- Merry Christmas and a happy new year,
- Season's greetings,
- Blessed Christmas,
- Sincerely,
- Kind regards,
- Happy holidays,
- Hugs,
- Your neighbours,
"With love" or "Hugs" for family and close friends, "Warmly" or "Happy holidays" for coworkers and neighbours, "Sincerely" or "Best wishes" for clients and your boss, "Blessed Christmas" for faith-based cards.
How to sign a Christmas card
Families, couples, single parents, pets, teams, new neighbours and the Merry Christmas versus Happy Holidays question. There's no wrong way, but some read better than others.
Family
From all the Tremblays
Or list everyone: "Thomas, Eva, Anna and Max". Adults first, then children from oldest to youngest.
Couple
Sam & Jordan
Order doesn't matter. With the same surname: "Sam & Jordan Lee" or "The Lees".
Single parent with kids
With love, Dana, Max and Ella
You're a family. A list of names always works.
With a pet
Alex, Sara and Teddy the dog (woof!)
The pet goes last. A paw print next to the signature always goes over well.
Team or business
Warm wishes from everyone at Maple Dental
For clients add the name of a real person so the card doesn't look like a form letter.
New neighbours
Sam and Jordan, Unit 22
The unit number helps people remember who you are.
Someone grieving
Thinking of you, Helen
Keep it simple, with no family photo and no cheerful slogans.
Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?
Merry Christmas, Dave / Happy Holidays, team
Use Merry Christmas for people you know celebrate it. For coworkers and clients, Happy Holidays is kind and never wrong.
Secret Santa card
Merry Christmas from your Secret Santa
Stay friendly and anonymous, and skip inside jokes that the whole team won't understand.
What to write in a Christmas card
What should I write in a Christmas card?
Four parts are enough: a greeting with their name, one specific personal line (a shared memory, a thank-you, something you noticed about their year), a wish and a warm sign-off. The personal line is what people remember, and everything else can be short. Pick a ready-made message above and add that one line.
What are nice short Christmas messages to text?
Choose the "Short" length and tap "WhatsApp": the message opens straight in your chat. Examples: "Merry Christmas, my loves! So glad you're my people" or "Happy Holidays and all the best in the new year!". Putting their name first makes it feel personal right away.
What are funny, original Christmas wishes?
The ones that mention something only the two of you know: an inside joke, the burnt shortbread, last year's crooked tree. Pick the "Funny" tone and add your own line. A real detail beats any ready-made joke.
What do I write in a Christmas card for family?
Thank them for something specific (help, preparations, time together), say what the Christmas Eve table means to you, and wish them health and a calm season. The "Family" category goes from a one-liner to a long letter.
Is it "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" in Canada?
Both are used. Write "Merry Christmas" to people you know celebrate it. In a workplace, with clients, or when you don't know someone's traditions, "Happy Holidays" is polite and never wrong. Use the "Happy Holidays" tone in the generator for those.
What can I write to children about Santa?
Mention the cookies and milk by the tree, the carrot for the reindeer, and that Santa checks his list from the North Pole. Canadian kids also know that letters to Santa go to H0H 0H0, and Canada Post answers them for free if sent before the deadline. The "Kids and grandkids" category has texts for this.
Coworkers, boss and clients
What do I write to clients at Christmas?
Thank them for their trust, say what working together meant to you, and wish them a peaceful holiday and a successful new year. Sign with the name of a real person, not just the company, and if you close over the holidays, give the date you're reachable again. No advertising in the card.
What do I write to my boss at Christmas?
Thank them for something concrete (trust, feedback, an opportunity) and wish them and their family a good holiday. Keep humour mild and skip raises, bonuses and workload.
What do I write to coworkers at Christmas?
Short and friendly: a specific thank-you, a wish for real rest, and your name at the end. For a Secret Santa card, stay friendly and anonymous. If you don't know whether someone celebrates Christmas, choose the "Happy Holidays" tone.
Can I give cash or a gift card in a holiday card?
Yes, it's common for people like a regular cleaner, a hairstylist, a babysitter or a mail carrier, with a short handwritten thank-you. Some workplaces and schools limit what staff may accept, so check the rules first.
Tricky cases and the technical bit
What do I write to someone who isn't doing well at Christmas?
No cheerful "Merry Christmas". Write that you're thinking of the person, that this season can be hard, and offer something concrete, like a visit or a meal. Choose "Someone having a hard time". A short message is always better than silence.
Can I send a Christmas card by WhatsApp or email?
Yes, many people do. Make the card here, download the image and send it by WhatsApp or email, or share it right from your phone. Nothing is stored on our servers, and the card has no watermark.
Is it free, and do I need to sign up?
Yes, it's free with no sign-up. The card is made in your browser, downloads as a PNG and has no watermark. You can print it at 5×7 in or send it on.
