Yorkshire's Christmas markets are mostly in historic towns and cities. York has its market in the medieval centre of the walled city, Leeds and Sheffield run city-centre markets (Sheffield's Victorian Christmas Market at Kelham Island Museum is a separate, smaller event), and Harrogate and Knaresborough hold Christmas fayres in the spa-town streets. Halifax has the Christmas market in The Piece Hall, the Georgian cloth hall, Beverley a Festival of Christmas, Skipton a town-centre market, and Whitby a Christmas market festival on the coast. Barnsley is the big-town option in South Yorkshire.

Christmas markets in Yorkshire by town

All 11 Christmas markets in Yorkshire: dates at a glance

Sorted by town, checked in October 2026. Each market links to its guide with opening times, how to get there and our verdict.

Tips for your trip in Yorkshire

  • York, Leeds, Harrogate (from Leeds or York), Sheffield, Halifax, Skipton, Beverley, Whitby and Barnsley all have rail connections: the train avoids Christmas-weekend parking, which fills early in York and Harrogate.
  • York and Leeds are the busiest on Saturdays in December: a weekday or an early-opening visit is much calmer.
  • The smaller towns (Knaresborough, Beverley, Whitby, Skipton) often run their markets for only a few days: the dates are on each town's guide.

How we check the dates

Dates, prices and travel details come from the organisers and councils; ratings are from Google, as a guide only. Where the 2026 date is missing we show last season's, marked as such. Last checked in October 2026: opening times can change, so check the organiser's website before you travel.
